I would say this most impactful thing I learned in Sports Comm this semester was all the unique ways sports media is used throughout sports and all the different way we can broadcast events. I did not know a ton about hawk-eye being in used in sports. I had heard it in class before and then saw it being used in the super bowl so being able to apply class to what is going on in the real world was cool. Also, something I learned about was AIFI and how it has begun to to make an impact when scanning foods and making transactions easier for a few schools across the country. I liked how engaged Dr. Pederson was during the whole time we had this class. As well as incorporating podcast and being able to talk about things that people in the class all had interest in. I also really enjoyed starting up each day with an SBJ article and giving the class some energy to start off the day. The intersections of the course made it easy to come to class everyday and did not make me dread it. Talking about things in the real world that were occurring everyday really kept me engaged.
I would not change much about this course. Sometimes the assignments could be challenging but that is what it is all about, so I enjoyed the aspect of it being challenging. Sometimes class could feel long if we ever ran out of content to talk about. Which rarely happened and was never a major problem at all because Dr. Pederson was always prepared coming into class with content for us to discuss and go over.
Now that I have the background knowledge of so many different sport media outlets, I feel I am much more more rounded than I was before when it comes to having knowledge of the sports world. Coming in I did not know much to anything about AIFI or hawk-eye now I would say I know a lot about both of them. Not to say I am an expert or anything, but I have much greater knowledge than I did previously. When re evaluating this class, I think it has been my favorite sports administration class yet while it might even be the most difficult one, I have had yet. Being able to come into class and discuss different things and have objective conversations about each thing we talked about made the class that much more enjoyable than it could have been. I really enjoyed doing the group activities it was a terrific way to meet new people and talk to people who you would have not. That being the case as well gave us time to discuss and talk about other things outside of the project or assignment we were assigned to doing and get to know each other a little bit more. This all being said I’m very glad I’d decided to take this course and get to learn so much about: Building a website, making my own podcasts, and creating blogs.
