Phone deprivation blog post
For me, this was not as bad as I thought it would be. I found myself wondering early on how difficult this would be. Anticipating this assignment all weekends made me realize the importance of needing to make my plans early and be organized. On Saturday February 8, 2025, I did something I have never done before. I was able to really self reflect and get spend some time with buddies and God out in the wilderness.
Scheduled deprivation
8:30 a.m.- I woke up and immediately thought I needed to get on my phone. I stopped the urge and decided that I would just try to go back to sleep for a little while to pass time. This honestly worked out well for me as I was able to just get some much-needed rest from a long week of football practice.
10:30 a.m.- I decided to get up and get some breakfast. Once I got up and got some food, I got together my fishing rod and put together my fishing tackle for that day. Excited with the day ahead I made way to my buddies' apartments to get them, and we made way to the fishing spot we were going try out.
1:00 p.m.- Once we arrived at the fishing spot, we decided to stop at a place we had never been before and see if we could catch any fish there. Unfortunately, we were unable to catch a thing. Nonetheless our first experience was a good time met with great fellowship.
3:00 p.m.- About two hours into the trip we stopped by a fly shop in order to get some help from a local fly shop that had locals who knew the area pretty well. We were able to get some advice and ended up going out just for the spot we were headed to have had the turbines turned on and the water be about 11 ft high.
5:00 p.m.- We ended up going to another spot and ended up getting in the water. Which was great time and honestly good rehab taking a cold-water plunge. We made our way back and realized that was not a super hard task for me being that I am usually hunting or fishing on the weekend and never really on my phone very much when I do not have to be. That being said, it still was refreshing and healthy for me to not be on it.
6 p.m.- We made our way back to Birmingham after a long day and had a great time just getting back and discussing our trip and how unsuccessful it was and talked about how that is sometimes just how fishing goes and that is why it is not called catching.
7 p.m.- We went to Moes and had a good meal and just talked about the day we had and watched Clemson upset Duke. I could not resist the games and unfortunately gave in. Once we returned home, we watched LSU lose in a classic vs ole miss where they were up by 11 and lost in the last second of the game on a tip in.
9 p.m.- I returned home and went to sleep. Before bed though I listened to a SBJ podcast featuring " Fox Sport’s Eric Shanks, the NFL’s Hans Schroeder and taking in the Luka-AD trade."
